Tis the season

With all the festive holidays starting in the end of November till the beginning of the New Year we are surrounded by so many unhealthy treats around every corner... With all these temptations what is a health nut to do? Well there are three real options with two of them being wise choices and the third not so much so...

The first option is to continue to on with your normal eating plan as if the holidays didn't exist.. Never giving in to any of the sweet treats temptations or per pressure, which you will get lots of from friends and family... This time of year your support system seems to dwindle down as everyone else feels you should just splurge like them.

The second is to limit you indulgements which can be tricky to someone that normal doesn't eat that way because the sweetness well really play tricks with your body making you really crave more and more... Sometimes it's best just stick with option number one for this reason especially if you have a addictive personality.. You may get stuck in a rut when you try to get back on track after the holidays..

The third choice is to just totally forget your normal way of eating and just over indulge regretting it later on realizing the food you just ate wasn't all that good and you weren't missing out on anything by not eating it except your big belly which will soon follow if you keep that up for very long....

In conclusion the holidays can be filled with lots of great food, but remember how hard you worked to get to where you are today.. Is the few moments of sugars treats really worth it? Do they rally taste that good to begin with? Well you regret it later on? Sometimes the pros don't out weigh the cons.. It's all your personal choice just be wise in it... If you go indulge in holiday treats get track with the new years.. Don't get stuck in a rut you can't get out of

Pre workouts, Worth taking?

Pre-Workout Supplements

In my honest opinion there are so many pre-workouts that are nothing more than a waste to money not really doing much for you other than a short lived glittery caffeine rush..  There are always a few truly good products that are worth taking though... They are few and far between though, and you have to know what to look for and sort though all the unnecessary garbage most add to them...

You don't need them to have a list of ingredients a mile long, there are only a few ingredients that actually work wonders.. Some companies try to hide their less than idea products by simply listing their ingredients as a Proprietary Blend.. When I see that it means to me they have loaded it with a ton of useless stuff with very limited amounts of quality ingredients that actually give you the added pump and boost to really get at your workout... Most of those products are the ones that normally have upwards of 500mg of caffeine vs the 80mg of a cup of coffee... Taking that much caffeine will just leads to a huge caffeine crash shortly after taking, most times even before your workout is finished... They also most the time only add trace amounts of the good stuff so they can list it, making it look better product than it really is.. Personally for me, I want to know the exact amounts of all the compounds I am ingesting to know they will work the way I want them to...

A good workout blend will show the exact amounts of each item in it, not this proprietary blend stuff.. And won't have all the unnecessary junk fillers added into them making them appear to be the next biggest thing to hit the market ... I prefer to make my own pre-workout mixture though... Not only is it the best way to know exactly what you are using without all the artificial flavors and colors... It is also way more cost efficient to buy each ingredient in bulk... I would just be taking a guess, but I'll say it's around 1/4 of the price to do it yourself... I make mine consisting of only a few key ingredents:

Branched-Chain Amino Acids:

Also known as BCAA's, they are amino acids that your can't produce naturally in you body, they must either be eaten though food or other form of supplementation... They are key to promote muscle growth... The 3 BCAA's are Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine.. I take a minimum of 5 grams pre-workout and again another 5 grams afterwards again.. Out of these 3 Leucine is the most important to look for...It has been shown to stimulate muscle protein synthesis, so that's why it should be the highest amino acid in your blend... The most common ration found is 2:1:1, which is perfectly fine, but I prefer to go with the 8:1:1 still.

Beta-Alanine:

Beta-Alanine main purpose is to increase muscular endurance.. Meaning it can help improve your overall training volume, and give you the ability to keep your intensity up for longer periods of time. In other words more volume equals more gains.

If you take a large dose of Beta-Alanine, which is in most pre-workouts to give you the all mighty pump feeling, you will most likely also experience a slight tingling sensation. Don't worry this is normal if taking a quality supplement containing it... The most common dose of this is around 2.5 grams pre-workout, but I have seen people use as much as 5 grams, in my opinion that's a bit over kill and a waste of money..

Creatine Monohydrate:

One of the biggest reasons is it is meant to help with explosive strength.. It's is one of the ingredients that is going to help most with lower-rep workouts. It is something that is built up in your body over continued use and saturated into your muscles... It helps to produce a fast, big energy pump required for those really big and heavy lifts.

I personally take 5 grams a day, half pre-workout and the the other half post-workout... On my non-training days I will still take creatine to keep the levels up in my body, those day I use it right after breakfast.. Some people recommend a week "loading phase" I will argue that theory, because it is built up over time in your body.. I think it is just a waste to do the 20 grams a day some suggest for the first week of use... You will still get the same results in the end I can guarantee and save a ton of product...

Caffeine:

For me this may be as simple as a cup of coffee I don't necessarily go and but the powder every time of this, but when I do I only add up to 100mg of it.. If i am going to do a late evening workout I will leave it out as well simply because it will hinder your sleep for several hours after taking it... We all know how important sleep is to recovery, don't want to hurt that process either... So as far as this one is concerned I would say use it and the amount to your own personal preference, but wouldn't go over 100mg to keep you from having that crash later on..

 My final thoughts:

You should take your pre-workouts roughly 30 minutes before getting to your actual workout. That way it has time to absorb into your body and start to take effect.. I typically drink mine just before leaving my house to the gym... Taking it to late it may not kick in till half way though your workout and you will miss out on the awesome benefits from it.. To answer the question if I think they are worth taking, YES I personally do, most of my workouts are either really early morning or after a long day of work.. I need a little kick in the butt sometimes to get myself in gear to keep my intensity up... Others my not feel this way because of either their lifestyle allows for lost of rest or other personal choices, for me I almost always take one..

Artificial Sweeteners and Sugar Free Foods

Artificial Sweeteners, a Better Choice?

What is a artificial sweetener? Basically all that sugar free and artificial sweeteners are is a man made chemical added to your food... Doesn't sounds good put that way does it? I didn't think so either, personally I try not to put any man made toxic additive into any of my foods... They all come with some major risks...

These so called "healthy" alternatives to sugar are anything but healthy... There are 5 different types of them we will touch base on a few to give you an idea of what you are really consuming... Then I'll name the rest so you know what to watch out for...

The number one biggest seller is "Splenda" chemically know as Sucralose, it is nothing more than sucrose that's been chemically altered by a cancer causing agent we all know, chlorine... They simply replace a few atoms in sucrose with some chlorine atoms creating this now potentially dangerous cancer causing compound ment to lower calories in food... Sound like a good idea to you?? Me either!!!

The second biggest seller in America is, Aspartame, also know as "Equal" it is found in countless everyday products we consume ranging from bread, yogurts, and even your chewing gum you so dearly love... It's so bad for you the U.S. Air Force recommend that none of their pilots consume any amounts of it due to the fact that it causes tumors, birth defects, epilepsy, diabetes, mental retardation, and even fibromyalgia... (Hum that last one seems to be a growing problem for sure)... The list goes on and on for this fine product, (being sarcastic if you couldn't tell)... This Aspartame only got approved because of loop holes in the system and the FDA has never went back to try to have it removed, go figure the American way....

Like I said there are 5 artificial sweeteners, those are only your two main biggest sellers... I will just list the remaining three for you.. I think you get the point of the health concerns with consuming them by now, they are all very similar in that aspect...

#3) "NutraSweet"
#4) Saccharine
#5) Acesulfame Potassium

Beyond the health risks that I already stated they also come along with some more serious issues as well such as Metabolic syndrome.. In a nutshell it's where you have increased blood pressure, increased fat in abdominal area (your belly), and increased cholesterol... These conditions lead to a increases chance of both stoke and heart disease....

Even though they are low calorie sweeteners compared to consuming real sweeteners studies have also shown artificial sweeteners to actually promote weight gain, Yes that's correct they will actually cause your BMI to go up... Which defeats the entire intention of consuming them right?... They basically play a mind game with your body.. Since they are so much sweeter, up to 100 times more so than real sugar, when consumed it causes you to eat more later on in the day to obtain that level of sweetness again that it believe is normal and makes you crave it like you wouldn't believe... You will find yourself craving way more sweets like candies, pies, cookies, and soft drinks than you would normally which is where the weight gain comes into play....

Take a look around at society and the normal individual today compared to 30 years ago, need more proof our government could really care less about your health?... I don't!!

What can you do though to stay healthy? Stay clear of all products with miss leading statements such as low calorie, no sugar added, or diet... For the most part all of these will all contain artificial sweeteners..

Also a fact that not to many people know is your public tap water is also contaminated with a wide array of chemicals that are bad for you ranging from chlorine, a cancer causing agent and sucralose... There are thousands of things that you drink unknowingly with tap water, the thought of it just makes me sick to know what they allow to poison our bodies...

The best thing you can do is just real true sweeteners like pain old sugar or more preferred honey.. Yes they have calories so limit the consumption of them, but ask all cost stay away from artificial sweeteners... Your body will thank you...

Are All Foods Created Equally?

Are All Foods Created Equally??

The simple answer to the is No, not at all... Let me explain. There are "simple carbohydrates" and "complex carbohydrates" which I will refer to as carbs for short.. Simple carbs in general are bad for you, because they tend to spike you blood sugar for a short period of time the dropping off rapidly.. This causes a few different issues in your body.. One being that what you can't use right away will be stored and eventually turned into fat, which is a problem for most people.. Another BIG problem with them is once your sugar levels drop off you start to feel tired, with a lack of energy to do much of anything, and feel HUNGRY again!!! All within a short period of time... Don't get me wrong they do have their place though, such as either right BEFORE or right AFTER a workout.. They are very crucial at that time because they help you to have the energy needed for a strenuous workout, and the reasoning right after is to replenish your glucose levels which is used up very fast so they aren't stored like if you were to just eat them in a normal meal.. When I say right after a workout I mean exactly that, after 20 minuets all bets are off and will be like eating them at a normal mean.. It needs to be immediately after the workout not half an hour later when you get home like most people do..  Some Examples or these are soda pop, candies, pastries, all processed foods like cereal and breads, white potatoes, white rice, and basically any prepared foods you buy day to day.. The western way of eating is horrible and that's what most Americans have come accustomed to..

Complex carbs are very important in a stable diet plan.. They help to give you sustained energy and keep you feeling full much much longer than simple carbs... They keep your blood sugar levels level and helps keep from over eating later in the day with plenty of energy to do whatever you please.. They can actually help people with diabetes also to keep there blood levels more under control and possibly over time with a great diet the people that aren't super severe diabetics have to potential to not need their meds on a daily basics anymore.. You want to try to incorporate as many of these into your diet as possible.. Examples of these are brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, barley, and lentils

There are also (2) different types of proteins, fast digesting and slow digesting.. Both are good for you, eggs whites and whey protein are fast digesting and good for in the morning and after your workouts.. Slow digesting proteins are found in chicken, beef, cottage cheese, and your casein proteins... They are good for thought the day and at night to keep you feeling full which helps you from over eating as well... Both types can safely be in your daily diet.. I know personally I eat both and recommend doing so daily depending on the time of the day and when I workout..

As for fats I think most people are well aware that saturated fats and trans fats are bad for you and  you need to stick to polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats for overall and heart health..
Some people though try to eliminate fats totally from your diet especially when trying to loose weight.. This is a no no you actually need to keep them, just healthy fats and not over do it, even for weight loss otherwise your body feels it is being deprived of them and wont burn what you have stored already.. I try to get around 15-20% of my calories from good fats and 0% or as close to that as possible from bad saturated fats... These healthy fats can be found in items such nuts like almonds, coconut oil, olive oil, and avocados...

I hope this helps to clarify some common misconceptions about foods..

Having a Workout Parther, Pros and Cons

There are many positives and negatives on either side of this topic.. I will be starting off with Having A Workout Partner..
Having a workout partner can be a great thing.. You always have someone there to spot you, give you encouragement, giving you that little extra push to finish what you might otherwise cut short, and also hold you accountable for making to the gym each and every time...
With everything good there is also a downfall though unfortunately.. If you are only able to use one bench and you both aren't to the same level you may end up actually hurting your workout by wasting energy constantly changing the plates on the bar.. That will also possibly cause a problem if you are doing high intensity workouts with limited rests not getting it all done before your rest time is up... Another problem with having a buddy to lift with is he may like to talk in between sets when your trying to just listen to your toons to stay in the proper mind set you need for your next lift...
Accountability is another big one especially for beginner lifters.. I personally don't need anyone to tell me to go to the gym, but others need that push out the door... Also though if your buddy can't go a day will you still go? Fitness is my life and I couldn't imagine not making it a day to the gym..
It all comes down to your own personal decision.. For me I choose to workout solo.. I love it!! For the most part if I want a spotter I can always find someone around that's more than willing to help out for a few seconds.. Otherwise I make sure to set up safety precautions such as crash bars.. Having a workout partner for me always slows down my workout causing me to not get the most out of it, unless it's a HIIT FITT cardio series.. Then you would be surprised the difference it can make.. It up's the pace and intensity because no one wants to be the one to give up first with others watching...
ENJOY!!

Changing things you can't accept..

Never Settle, or Just Accept the Normal way of Things..

Why should you settle for a certain way of life or lifestyle when your not truly happy with it... Change it! Only you have the power to control your life, you don't have to follow the way society believes you should be or live.. It's your life and no one else's, do what makes you happy... Change is always possible, I'm not saying easy, but possible if you are determined to do so..

Say your unhappy with your everyday 9-5 job and feel you are stuck there with nowhere else to go... Feel you aren't qualified to do a different better job, or Just afraid of change... Whatever the reasons may be making you think you must accept that because you feel you can't change it.... Your WRONG!!! You can, you can always go back to school to higher your education at any age or situations... You can always take the leap into a different job that's better fitted for you even though you fear the outcome... Don't let fear hold you back... Fear is nothing more than you emotion st that time.. Fear can become happiness later..

It's even possible you have a business idea but aren't certain on how to make it happen our if it will be successful, so it stays in limbo forever never becoming reality... Ask for guidance to get you pointed in the right direction to get the ball moving... Set up a plan on when and where you want this to happen realistically, don't just say this is what I want... You need a step by step plan written down you can check of when things are complete.. Always move forward never look back...

Lifestyle changes are also possible like smoking and drinking... So many people claim they want to stop, but really what have you done to make that happen? By saying something doesn't mean you tried to or gave it your all...

Nothing worthwhile is easy you just have to dive in head first, be determined, and never give up always looking forward at what will become... Always drive for a better you! Anything is possible in life.... You just have to honestly give it you all, NOT just talk about it... Never settle for less than you desire or deserve... It's your life, you only get one chance at it.... Make it the best you can for you and your family... You have a bigger support system then you realize from the people around you..

Does Eating Organic Mean You Are Eating Healthy?

I hear it all the time "I eat healthy, I only eat organic".... Eating Organic DOES NOT mean healthy.. It's just a label for manufactures use to trick people into buying their products thinking that they are making better life choices... Granted some, and I do only mean some, are better choices but the vast majority are just a marketing scheme... A very smart one on their part may I add with everyone jumping on the "healthy lifestyle" bandwagon...
Many products marked organic aren't truly organic, if you read the ingredient list there are many ingredients added that aren't organic in most of them... Also organic cookies, candies, ect. aren't healthy, NOT by any means.. They are still cookies and candies with the same fats and sugars and other unhealthy qualities as the standard products with the same health consequences... They can still make you over weight... Don't be tricked by these marketing methods... Be smart learn to read the nutritional facts and make smart choices.. Otherwise your just fooling yourself sending extra money on items you have been fooled into thinking are healthy choices...
In my opinion only certain fruits and vegetables should be bought organic.. Only providing you are willing to spend the extra money for the benefits of them in hopes they haven't had any over spray from other near by fields onto them anyways..
Poultry and meats I believe free range and grass feed are a good options as well, but personally I can't afford the justification to spend that much more on them.. So consequently I still buy the regular old products taking the risk of what the fill them full of these days... To truely eat everything healthy you would need a farm and personally grow and raise all the food you consume..
I hope you enjoy!!

Failure or New Goal?

Yesterday at the gym while filming for a upcoming YouTube video.. I was doing a heavy leg day, and on my last set of front squats which was only for a single rep I was unsuccessful to put it up...
Someone said to me to name this video "failure".. It made me start thinking.. No it wasn't a failure, I didn't give up or not try it knowing it was going to be a fight..  That would have made it a failure.. I knew going into it there was a 50/50 chance I wasn't going to get it up especially considering the fact I never really do front squats and when I do I stick between 6 and 8 reps..
This particular weight was just an estimation of the weight I thought I was going to be able to lift..Also do to the fact I did a bunch of extreme cardio the day before.. I knew it was going to be even harder because my legs were fried already.. Due to this fact I made sure I had the safety bars set at the proper height as a precautionary step not to injure myself in this attempt, which is a must to protect yourself especially when lifting alone..
Failure to me in the gym means to give up.. Now this on the other hand is a new GOAL that I will achieve in a relatively short period of time.. A unsuccessful lift is never a failure, but more if a goal to dig deep and dominate in the future because it is possible... Some days are just of days like this was for me... My legs were already fried from the day before... I only had a few hours sleep getting up at 3a.m for work, which rest is really important to a workout... (on a normal day for me I probably would have been successful at it)
My words of wisdom are just never look at the unsuccessful things in life as a failure.. You tired, learned, and now know where you need to improve on.. Get right back to it and try again, don't get discouraged, you'll get it... Determination is key to success..

Sleeping issues and the possible culprits

Sleeping Issues

So many people have trouble sleeping at night, you have your average Joe, bodybuilder, family man, and gamers alike... Many of which can't sleep well at night and turn to their doctors for sleeping aids or simply take an over abundance of over the counter ones.. I for one have done both in the past... I went to the doctors first after the recommend dosage of OTC sleep aids didn't work, and he gave me a prescription... It really didn't do any better and made me super groggy in the mornings, a common side effect.... With working a job that required me to punch in by 6 a.m. and run heavy machinery this wasn't any good, so back to OTC sleeping aids it was.. I ended up taking twice the recommend dosage mixed with different types to be able to sleep.. Some nights even resorting to adding nighttime cough medicine to the mix to make sure I would sleep...

I knew there had to be a underlying cause, this wasn't normal... There was! Turns out I am caffeine sensitive.. Even though I was taking my pre-workout after work at 3:30  in the afternoon it was still affecting my sleep... May people don't realize a cup of coffee has around 75/85mg caffeine, around 150/200mg in a energy drink, and a wopping 150/400mg in pre workout drinks... That's right 400mg in a single serving and a lot of people take more than one serving.... No wonder many bodybuilders can't sleep well if they workout in the evenings... Which many do after their 9-5 jobs..

Today I do morning workouts for the most part and try to only drink black coffee and find pre-workouts that contain little to no caffeine... A good pre-workout has others stuff for your pumps than caffeine you just have to know what to look for...

Other things that affect the way we sleep is stress,.. In this crazy world we live in it is hard to limit, but it is crucial to do your best to... Going to bed with things either on your mind or bothering you is the death of sleep for many... I for one can't sleep if I'm constantly thinking about something... You just need to sit back a minute, take a few deep breaths and and just try to clear your mind thinking about nothing... I try to picture each body part one at a time feeling peaceful and relaxed letting go of everything it seems to work for me...

Any electric devices such as a television, playing on your phone, or even Kindles can destroy sleep as well.. It's something about the lighting of the screen keeps your body from getting prepared for sleep... An half an hour before bed time to turn off all those things and enjoy some family time or a good old fashion paper book instead... Anything to just detach and unwind from all today's modern technology that so people many are addicted to..

For you to achieve a good deep sleep fast you need total dark without light shining in to allow your body's natural production of melatonin to occur, which is the chemical in your body that promotes sleep... All handheld devices hinder that process..

I hope reading this helps to get you a better night sleep.. It took me years of restless nights before coming to my own realizations of the possible problems I may be having.. Doctors are all to fast to just grab their pen write a prescription for you and collect their money to get on to the next person ...

The Hassle of Body Hair

The struggle is real, dealing with a massive amount of body hair and bodybuilding.. I for one have this problem.. Always trying to keep your chest and back hairless is the biggest problem.. Your arms isn't all that bad.. Just once a week take 15 min and wack it off with a razor.. Never having any real problems other than the hassle of doing it...

Now you chest, that's a whole new beast.. Not only does it take forever to do, but I know for one I have to be extremely careful and buy expensive shaving cream or I get extreme razor burn, ingrown hairs and any other unsightly thing you can imagine.. The whole point of shaving is to be more appealing to the eyes, not create more of a eyesore, which is also painful especially when bathing.. It's a love hate relationship.. Somedays your happy and excited to do it other's it's the last thing in the world you want to be doing for fear of the outcome.. Wishing you never started shaving in the first place questioning your reasoning for it..

You back though really isn't so bad other than the fact trying to force your arm into these odd positions to get it all.. I have fallen in love with "the man groomer" back shaver it makes doing your back a less than 5 minute ordeal that is as easy as brushing your teeth...

For my legs I don't worry about razor blade close.. I personally am happy with just running hair clippers across them fast..  My main concerns are my arms, back, and chest... As long as the legs are what I consider short I'm content..

I believe shaving is a personal decision and many people look at me weird when they find out I shave my whole body, but it's my decision and makes me feel better about myself, showing off the hard earned body I have achieved though years of hard work and dedication... I don't let others thoughts or opinions bring me down and well continue to do what makes me happy.. It's my life to life to the fullest, not the nay sayers trying to lower others to their level conforming with the everyday society..

HIIT FITT - Way more work than I was expecting

The other day I went to a buddies, which happens to be an amazing personal trainer with a whole new and effective way to train you to a whole new level, to do a HIIT FITT workout.. There was three of us there doing the same routine, which only two were able to complete..  I went there with the expectations of dominating this workout and showing off a bit possibly even.. Basically just getting a feel for this style of training, which was fairly new to me..
I have done some smaller shorter workouts that were somewhat similar on my own in the past, but unlike I was expecting they couldn't even compare to this monster.. I'm not going to give out the methods to his madness, but will say the entire workout is non-stop high energy and completed in less than 25 minutes!! I can promise you that you have never done anything like this before and never will again.. I can't even give an estimate of the calories you expend, but would guess it's more than a full hour than your normal cardio routine.. Once you do it you will instantly be in love and reevaluate your current routine.. Also to top of a killer workout, it's a great way to spend time bettering yourself with some great people.. That's something none of us really take enough time to do in this high paced world we live in..
Most of the time I think people that hear of this style are instantly turned away simply thinking that it's more of for a lack of better words "female's" workout.. I for one will tell you that you may want to try it out just once before jumping to that conclusion so fast.. If you're interested in finding out more about this style of training comment or send a message to me I'll hook you up with his info..
And a phrase to remember while doing it, NEVER STOP TILL YOU HEAR THE BUZZER!!

Things people do at the gym that irritates you?

Things people do at the gym that irritates you?

In the past couple years it seems fitness has become a popular trend.. Not necessarily all for the right reasons though.. I think it has more to do with the marketing of all the new diets, supplements, and so called super nutritious all organic foods the advertisers are trying to push to increase revenue for their companies.. Many off which really don't work.. What many people fail to remember is the people they are using to advertise the products either looked like that before they used that product, which in most cases give for free to get them to endorse it, or secondly don't use that product themselves regularly at all...

But to stay on topic, with this whole new fad has brought many new people to gyms all over. They are trying to be that person they see on advertisements thinking, I take this product and follow their routine and food plan I'll become just like the people advertising it.. Which yes a reduced calorie diet at first you will lose, but not like the product is claiming..

These people generally aren't your average gym rat though.. They are the normal average person off the streets, which I think is great.. Everyone should be involved in health and fitness to try to better themselves.. They need to really want it and want to do it for themselves not to try to impress others.. What I don't like is what they bring along with them at the gym sorta say.. Let me expand on that last statement better..

You know what I'm taking about.. You can spot them a mile away.. They are constantly on their phones either texting while sitting the machine you are trying to use, engaged in a lengthy loud conversation via phone while walking on the treadmill at a snail's pace.. Walking around making it social hour instead of getting the most from their workouts.. Your everyday gym going doesn't want to talk while trying to kill his workout.. You should do the same, jam out to some toons and put in some work!

You even have your occasional high maintenance female that spend longer than their workout at home getting dressed up, putting on makeup on, and spraying half a bottle of perfume on before coming to the gym not wanting to get to sweaty and ruin their make-up.. Sometimes I think they are there solely to try to draw men's attention to them.. Strong smelling perfume for me is the worst it makes me stuffy and I try to avoid even being around that area..

As for men go.. I always get a chuckle out of the ones that walk around starting at the 400 some pounds they just loaded on the bar trying to get the most attention possible before touching it again, only to perform a quarter rep with horrible back breaking form and the spotter doing most the work... Then they get up walking around like they are the man and just did something impressive.. Then proceed to leave the gym after they are done leaving out every weight they touched that day.. Like come on.. Putting the weights away would have probably been the best part of their horrible workout.. Now some poor sap has to clean up after you like you are 8 years old still..

What gets your blood to boil you at the gym?

What Started FITT_LO

Fitness has been a huge part of me since my mid-teen years.. It started out as just mountain biking then grew into a while array of physical activities ranging from tennis, biking, canoeing, backyard football, hiking, jogging, and weight lifting..

Yes I currently still enjoy doing them all from time to time but my main focus is in jogging and weight lifting.. I have taken a huge interest into bodybuilding and that is my passion.. It gives me a sense of fulfillment in life, not only because I enjoy it dearly but because I know everyday I am better than the day before.. I'm not trying to be the next Arnold just the best me possible.. I don't try to look like anyone else simply because they aren't me and I want to stand out of the crowd.. It takes true hard work, dedication, and drive to be better.. Never giving in to the nay sayers trying to get you down to their level..

For a long time my wife has been telling me to start something such as making and posting YouTube videos.. Not only because I enjoy what I do, but because I am also really good and successful with it.. I had been reluctant to do so, simply because I really never had done any public speaking or talking into a camera before, for well over a year I did nothing of the sort.. One day she and I picked the name FITT_LO (Fitness LeRoy & Opal) and started a Instagram page for our fitness photos and short videos we had been taking..  Many of which were home workouts with our 8 month old son, and posting healthy meals that she had been preparing for herself and I.. Working herself on getting back into shape after having our bundle of joy and finding it hard to make to the gym like she use to this was prefect for her..

Since then I sort of have taken over the page and decided heck if I can do short video clips on here why not try out YouTube, so I did.. Not being 100% comfortable talking into the camera yet my videos are still improving with each one as I build more confidence. I'm hoping to start getting more followers with time.. I'm starting to learn new techniques for the videos to make each one better...

In process of all this new undertaking I decided why not go all out and also start to express myself, share my story of what made me who I am today, and also my views and opinions certain topics health and fitness related topics.. So once again I lean to my wife to help me set up a blog.. She has been so helpful in helping me create all this.. Without her there would be no FITT_LO she had truly inspired me to do more.. Now I'm trying to turn  FITT_LO into a house hold name that people can turn to for questions and answers.. With hopefully someday down the road having our own product line as well, but for now just being the best we can be in helping others...

Hoping to hear some positive feed back on any blogs, Instagram, or YouTube posts..

Please feel free to share and subscribe to stay up to date with the latest FITT_LO info..

Why People Don't Succeed and Give up in Bodybuilding and Weight Loss

Why we fail in our journey to weight loss and muscle gains

There are several main reasons people get frustrated and give up in reaching their goals, whatever they may be..

In my opinion the biggest mistake people make is setting goals that are either way down the road realistically or not obtainable at all.. What do I mean by that exactly? Well say someone is looking to add 20lb of muscle while decreasing from 20% body fat down to 10% and they expect it all to happen in a months period of time..

That's just not possible no matter how perfect your workout and diet regimen is.. Even with everything spot on that would take well over a year or two to obtain easily.. Yes you can set that as a long term goal expecting that as a end result many years down the road, but also set a bunch of short term goals to reach along the way to keep you motivated to keep going... Set a goal say for every 3 to 4 weeks you can hit without trying to kill yourself that are in line with your ending goal..

Another problem I see all to often is not keeping track of what you actually eat just trying to "eat healthy". Yes eating healthy is important, but if you are trying to cut weight you need to know you are in a caloric deficit and vis versa for trying to add mass... You need write each and everything you eat down so you can hold yourself accountable for it.. Then when you see you aren't losing or gaining you will know exactly why and what you need to change..

Also sometimes if your goal was to lose say 5 pounds this month and you lost only 1 or 2 get frustrated and give up.. Heck you should still be happy. You may not have reached your goal, but you still lost some.. Progress is still progress no matter now you look at it.. You can't expect to always be 100%.. Maybe you had a of day or week and slipped up and didn't get to workout like you wanted to.. Just jump back on the train and try hard for your next goal.. Don't let it permanently derail you. Any movement towards your final goal is still progress.. Look at the positive in it at all times and give yourself credit..

My advice is never give up! One missed goal isn't failure, giving up is... You will always be a better you in the end if you just stick with it.. With each day you live and learn new techniques to help you with your journey, so always keep an open mind to new advice on ways of doing things.. A wise man is always learning.. And most importantly failure is never an option.. Just dig deeper within yourself to find the drive and determination to keep going... Things that are tough are generally worth the outcome in the end..

Steroids - The Good, Bad, Ugly Truth

The Good, Bad, Ugly Truth

Most of my life I have struggled with my weight, even as a pre-teen. Most of it had to do with extreme over eating and poor Western style diet. Around the ripe young age of 13 I became unhappy and uncomfortable with my weight. I had gotten to the point where I no longer wanted to do things that required me to take off my shirt in sight of others, which I always wore a bigger size than I really needed so it was loose in an attempt to conceal my wight from others.

By the time I was 14 or 15 I decided I had to do something! I was starting to feel secluded from others and very depressed, so I took up mountain biking. I found that I really enjoyed it and it made feel alive again! Which has been years since I had this feeling. Before I new it I was going all over the place to ride new trails. Some-days I would do 50 plus miles at a time. I started to shred off all my unwanted weight, but there was a downfall to all of this new exercising. Between the massive amounts of fat burners such as Stackers I was taking and biking I was finding myself hungry much more often than I use to be. With all the weight I was loosing I thought there is no way am I going to start to eat more now! Little did I know I was going to be at the beginning of a horrible eating disorder that I would develop.

Many people often think only females are at risk for eating disorders, but I'm here to tell you first hand that's just not the case. I wouldn't allow myself to eat more then my 3 small meal a day, maybe 1,200 calories a day at most I was consuming. I was burning way beyond that, to unhealthy level even on some-days. Before long I found myself binge eating box after box of cereal, cookies, ice cream and whatever else I could get my hands on at the time. Even making special trips to the store knowing what was going to happen once I got all those unhealthy treats. I would feel so sick and bloated from it I would always make myself throw it all right back up. Sometimes I would be so depressed over what had just happened, I would unknowingly find myself repeating the process over again.

That took me a very long time to get over and even ended up on depression medication to help cope with it. No one knew what was going on, not even my doctor. I had just told him I was feeling depressed. Being in a world where they are more than willing to give you pills for a anything you want basically out the door, I went with a script, no questions asked. At that point I went from about 215 pounds down to 155, but looked sickly. No 18 year old kid should look like that. I was just skin and bones, you could see all my ribs sticking out. The only thing that truly got me over all that was finding my proper caloric needs for my individual needs and made up a strict meal plan which I never deviated from, measuring out each and everything thing I ate. At this point I started noticing all the people around me looking so muscular and getting everyone's attention and I instantly knew I wanted to start lifting and become more like them. That was my new goal!

Around this same time my local community center opened up a fitness center, I thought perfect and I instantly joined. It was summer of 2004 and I was 18 just graduated high school. Everyday right after work I would ride my bicycle down and spend a hour a day there just lifting whatever I saw others doing, I really had no idea what I was doing at that point, but I knew I wasn't giving up now.

I spent months going through fitness magazines and online chat groups trying to find the perfect diet and lifting routine, but nothing seemed to work like I expected it to. I never got the result I was seeing in the magazines. I tried all kinds of pro-hormones which you could buy at any supplement store. They gave great results but after you stopped you lost most of your gains, which was do to the fact that in your body they converted into testosterone and is why the FDA later banned most of them. After a few years probably about 2008 area I deiced to experiment with a steroid cycle. I spent weeks and weeks looking up all the different compounds and what to expect all the way down to the side effects and how to counter act them if they were to arise. Where to get them, how long to run them, and how to properly inject yourself safely. Wow, I had fantastic results and loved it! That was my only cycle for like a year. I really missed getting results like that. So I decided to do it again. I felt amazing! Nothing could compare to it. It is almost an addictive feeling, getting everything I wanted so fast, so I took several months off and ran it again. At this point they were all your basic testosterone and D-Bol cycles to get big and strong. With not the most perfect diet like I thought I had. I ended up putting on a little more body fat then I wanted, so I tried D.N.P. the king of kings when it comes to fat burners, but it also has some hardcore side effects you must be ready to deal with. You feel like you are burning up inside the whole time, always sweating especially at night, and have to drink several gallons of water a day along with V8 juice to stay hydrated. I melted away all my extra fat in matter of few short weeks. I ran a total of 2 cycles of it over the years, always during the winter months due to the heat you feel from it. I always made sure to use with small amounts of testosterone to persevere muscle that I worked so hard to gain.

Several years went by and I was back to doing everything 100% natural. Then one day I was taking to my one buddy about them. Until then no one on this earth knew I had ever done anything, some had suspected, but I would always deny it. I was afraid of people stereotyping me over it. I find out he was interested in them so we talked and it made me want to start using them again remembering all the results I had gotten in the past, so I do. Since then I have been constantly been on and off them and enjoy every moment of it with no regrets. I honestly have no plans on ever stopping now. Granted I now have moved on to bigger and better compounds with better results, but it's all the same principal in the end.

What people truly don't understand though is there is no magic pill or supplement. It still takes the same hard work and dedication if not more so to achieve your results on steroids. Yes it helps you to recover better and faster, gives you more mental focus, and a better drive at the gym, but without a perfect diet and workout plan nothing will really help you. Some people think if they take steroids without changing anything they will instantly look like Arnold. Look at all the hard work he did day after day no excuses, he himself was a steroid user to the point it was actually abuse. He would eat them like a kid in a candy store. Used properly they do less to the body then people that smoke or drink regularly, which in society today is perfectly acceptable.

It is all sort of like a disease though, when I look in the mirror I still see that fat kid I use to be. That will probably never completely go away. Although over time and my loving wife's kind words and support I am slowly seeing me for me, not the "old" me. I know that will never fully go away though. I have a huge fear of returning to that person to this day, and know without any doubt if I were to stop my lifting routine or way of eating for any amount of time at all I would go insane leading to severe depression instantly. I am addicted to working out and can never skip a workout.

Personally I see no problem with people using steroids, they aren't for everyone though, it's all based on your own personal decisions made by plenty of research, not based on what your buddies tell you. Even most doctors are very uneducated in steroid use. The media twists everything to make people believe what they are told and not facts. I will say though if your a teenager they aren't for you, your naturally in your prime state for making the most testosterone on your own, no need to mess that up this early in life. As you age your natural testosterone goes down each year. Also not for beginner lifers. Your muscles and tendons aren't prepared. You need many good hard years of lifting with a good diet already in place. Currently I am 5'6" tall and 195 pounds, and leaner than I have ever been!

List of compounds I have currently run

Test Ethanoate
Testosterone Cypionate
Trenbolne Ethanoate
Deca Durabolin
D-Bol
Anadrol
Clomid
Novadex
Liquidex
Letro
GW-501516 (Cardarine)

Daily sacrifices we make

Sacrifices

Our daily lives are filled with tons of sacrifices many of which you don't even know you are making. Right now some of these may not sounds like sacrifices, but as you continue to read you will understand my perspective and way of thinking. They range from what you wear day to day, the type of foods you eat, your weekend lifestyle, and even how you use your free time (which you have, even though someday's don't feel like you do)..

Americans have made it so convenient to be lazy it's hard for some people not to notice all the sacrifices they are making to their health. Do you sacrifice a healthy home cooked meal on Friday evenings, or do you opt for fast food or home delivered pizza? Do you spend an hour watching your favorite t.v.show in the evenings, or do you meal prep for the following day to make eating healthy more convenient in a society of high paced grab-n-go meals? Do you choose materialistic high priced designer clothing to fit in instead of your average day attire, or do you choose to spend your money investing in you health buying high quality nutrition packed foods?

These are all sacrifices we are faced with daily. I have come to the conclusion with how easy society has made it to be lazy most people are more than willing to sacrifice their health along with their families to pick designer clothing instead of more expensive healthy food. Watch television instead of preparing meals and just go to your local convince store on the way to work to grab a cheap and fast lunch. After work instead of taking a extra hour on the way home to stop and grab a quick workout, they head straight home and end up wasting time later in the evening either watching the newest t.v.series or playing the latest and greatest video game, which they probably just spend $60 on, but can't afford a $30 gym membership..

Things people truly want and desire in life they always have time and money for, but the more challenging things that require hard work and dedication they don't have time for or can't afford them. Basically it comes down to life goals, amount of work your willing to put into things, and true drive and dedicating to achieve them.

My goals greatly differ from most peoples. I am willing to sacrifice going out on weekends and partying with my friends, not playing video games or watching t.v. I choose not to go out to eat except a few social occasions, I don't want materialistic things such as expensive clothing or the newest $600 phone.

I do however have the drive and desire to obtain a healthy lifestyle, fit body and mind... It gives me piece of mind knowing I'm ok with being different, being different is what makes me who I am today...
